Description

If you want to truly experience the desert of Oman, the Wahiba Wilderness Tour is an absolute must.

After a scenic drive from Muscat, we arrive at the vast expanse of the Al Sharqiya Sands, also known as Wahiba Sands or Ramlat al Wahiba. Here, the Omani desert reveals its breathtaking beauty: endless red and white dunes rise up to 200 meters, constantly reshaped by the wind into mesmerizing patterns that stretch as far as the eye can see.

Despite the harsh environment, life has thrived here for centuries. The desert was once home to the Bani Wahiba tribe, after whom the sands are named. Today, a few traditional Bedouin houses remain, and we have the opportunity to visit one, meeting the residents and learning about their way of life in this rugged wilderness.

Next, we journey to Wadi Bani Khalid—also known as Wadi Hayer or Wadi Hawer—a true desert oasis. Nestled amidst towering rocks and lush date palms, the wadi features a network of crystal-clear pools and even a small waterfall. Wadi Bani Khalid is not a single location but an expansive area encompassing several villages within the rocky hills. While some parts contain tiny caves, these should only be explored with a guide.

After soaking in the serene beauty of the wadi, we return to Muscat, carrying unforgettable memories of Oman's desert landscapes and hidden gems.
