Description

Nizwa, the ancient capital of interior Oman, is considered the birthplace of culture, tradition and Islam in the Sultanate.

The city is renowned for its Round Tower Fort, built in the 17th century, and its vibrant souq, famous for the Friday cattle auction, intricately hand-carved khanjars (daggers), and exquisite ornamental silver jewellery.

Nearby, Jabrin Castle, one of Oman’s finest castles from the late 17th century, served as a center of learning. The castle showcases remarkable ceiling paintings and beautifully executed woodcarvings, representing the pinnacle of Omani craftsmanship.

On the way back to Muscat, a visit to the charming village of Birkat Al Mauz at the foothills of Jebel al Akhdar (the Green Mountain) is highly recommended. Enjoy a leisurely walk through its lush oasis and dense date plantations, immersing yourself in the serene beauty of Omani village life.
